Is there a famous museum there? If so,, what is in it?
What hotel would be a good one that would be super convenient to everything?
Also..something near Gino East...as I hear they have the best pizza!!!5 main things to see in Chicago?
5 main things:
1. Michigan Avenue shopping
2. Architectural Boat Tour (awesome views of the city and
you learn a lot about the buildings).
3. ANY Museum (Art Institute, Field Museum, Museum of
Science and Industry which is my personal fave.)
4. Millenium Park - you have to see the big Bean!
5. Lake Shore Drive - walk along it, drive along it, but it is a
must!!
If I can add one more 6. Chicago style pizza! Lou Malnati's is my fave, Gino's is pretty great and Giordano's is pretty amazing too.
Tips:
1. The Aquarium is nice and fun, but I would make that the
last on the list if that's something you are interested in...not
really something that is a chicago only thing...aquariums
are everywhere.
2. ANY hotel in downtown Chicago is close to everything.
Cabs, trains, buses, and walking will get you anywhere
you need to go.
3. If you get a chance venture outside of hustle and bustle of
the touristy stuff. Go to Lincoln Park and walk around,
there is a free zoo there called the lincoln park zoo.
Chicago has so much to see!!!

All near each other near Lake Michigan and worth a visit.
Well, there will be no inexpensive hotels nearby. There's the Hyatt Regency, Swissotel, Marriott, Sheraton, Holiday Inn and Embassy Suites to name a few. All are reasonably close to Gino's East and the museums mentioned earlier.
The Art Institute has one of the best Impressionists collections this side of the Atlantic (the Louvre is better but in Paris).5 main things to see in Chicago?
drive up to milwaukee,WI (90 miles) and enjoy the peaceful scenic drive on lake Michigan
See holiday lights in Daley Sq, Navy pir and Michigan Ave.

What is true Chicago Pizza? Deep dish or thin crust?
On travel channel type shows they always refer to Chicago Pizza as deep dish like Lou Malnottis or Gino's East.
I personally have always thought of Chicago pizza as being think crust, paper thin crust that is. Traversos in my opinoin has true Chicago pizza, good ingredients and paper thin crust. I can't stand Lou Malonittis or Gino's East.

Gino's East and Lou Malnati pizzas are direct copies of the place where both worked and later replicated the menu.
The original place is still there but a chain took over and their pies can be tasted in several states.
Pizzeria Uno is the original. The deep dish style was created over 60 years ago. This is known as "Chicago Style" pizza.
Many places offer thin crust, double crust, stuffed, and deep dish styles...all different so it can be confusing.
The real "Chicago Style" is also made differently than a conventional pizza. The dough is spread on the pan and up the sides and then cheese slices are placed as the first layer. This is followed by tomato sauce and then the toppings. If sausage or another meat is used, a thick complete layer is applied, not a few pieces scattered about. The cooking time is about double that of a thin pizza because of the inverted style and number of ingredients.
Thin crust style is what you find in New York. It is the same as what you will find in Naples, Italy....where it all started.

Going on vacation in a couple of weeks with a few friends of mine who've never been to Chicago. My personal fave on deep dish is Gino's East; but I want to try something new - IF there's something better ;)

If you do Portillo's order the beef "wet' with giardiniera, a spicy mixture of peppers,carrots, celery adds that little something extra to the beef. (The chocolate cake is pretty good as well.)

Best PIZZA in Chicago for an out of towner?
I was referred to Gino's East (633 N. Wells St) and also Lou Malnati's (439 N. Wells St).
Both seem close to each other. Was wondering which place is better? Or if there is a better pizzeria in town?
Or, for somebody only making it to Chicago for ONE LUNCH is there another place you can recommend? I was leaning towards pizza cause Chicago supposedly has some really good pizza....

If you are looking for Chicago-style pizza...then you have got to go to Lou Malnati's. It is by far the best. Although Uno and Duo are excellent too. If I am remembering the history correctly...Uno and Duo are the original Chicago-style pizza and Lou Malnati's was opened like 10 years later by another family member. This was in the '40s or '50s, whereas Ginos wasn't opened until the '60s or '70s. In my opinion, Lou Malnati's is by far the best Chicago-style pizza. What are some 'must-dos' while visitng downtown Chicago?
I'm going to Chicago for the weekend and need some ideas of what to do while I'm there. I'll be downtown the whole time, so whatever is downtown. :) I need to know the names of the BEST pizza places. I have already been to Gino's East %26amp; it was great!What are some 'must-dos' while visitng downtown Chicago?
Here's a few other thoughts for downtown locations, besides all of the others listed here.
Check out the Museum Campus and walk along Solidarity Drive towards the Adler Planetarium. It's the best photo location in the city and the cityscape views are spectacular.
Stop at Garrett's along State St or Michigan Ave and get some caramel corn. Better yet...get a bag of Chicago Mix...cheese corn and caramel corn. Mmmmmmm..
Check out the 5 or 10PM newscasts at Channel 7 studios on State Street. Wave when they do the street view shots during and at the end of the news.
Get a Rainbow Cone at Halsted Street Deli, across from Channel 7. Sit at the window and watch the city stroll by as you enjoy the cone.
Take a walk along the river walk along the south side of the Chicago River, from Wabash Ave out to the lake. You can then cross at the Lake Shore Drive bridge to Navy Pier, or walk through DuSable Harbor and around back towards downtown.
For pizza...check out Lou Malnati's.
Don't forget the Hancock Building. It's not the tallest building in the city, but it has the best views looking out over the lake, the beaches and the city.
On the way back downtown, stop at the Apple Store to check your email...and vote for your favorite suggestion here.
For burgers, diner food and some fun abuse from the staff, definately eat at Ed Debevic's on Wells Street.
