Is it possible to change the software of audi navigation plus (year 2002) to a different operating system?

Hi all, was wondering if i could change the software which i am using currently ( Audi navigation plus travelpilot dx ) to another operating system like garmin for example? If yes where can i get the software to change the system software? Is that something i could do by myself or do i need to go to the dealer to get ripped off? What other navigation system would run on audi navi plus?

Thanks to all for taking the time to answer my question. Is it possible to change the software of audi navigation plus (year 2002) to a different operating system? It looks like the TravelPilot DX that Audis use as their navigation system is actually manufacturered by Blaupunkt.

If it had been manufacturered by Garmin, you might have had a chance to upgrade the software to the Garmin OS. (Simiarly, if it had been made by Tom Rom, you might be able to switch to the Tom Tom software.)

The problem with changing the software for things like GPS navigators is that the software for each device is noramlly written to be ~very~ specific to that device. (It's whats known as 'embedded software,' and in an effort to be optimized for the GPS unit's hardware, the software tends to do a lot of things that will only work with that exact hardware.)

It's not impossible that the embedded hardware from one GPS device would work on another manufascturer's GPS devices....but it's extremely unlikely. In all liklihood, any software that wasn't developed by Blaupunkt for your specific device won't even boot the unit, much less let you use it as a navigator.

Unless you can find something ~very specific~ saying that the software from Garmin or Tom Tom or whoever can run your device, I simply wouldn't count on it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
