What could be wrong if my audi starts trembling and shaking and the check engine light is blinking?

my car is an audi a4 1.8 turbo 2002 and today it started shaking very badly and the check engine light started blinking? the car has 78k miles and on thursday the time belt was changed and the water pump too. What could be wrong if my audi starts trembling and shaking and the check engine light is blinking?Have it towed ASAP- most likely a blinking engine light (do not drive) indicates a misfire which can be caused by several things including, failed spark plugs, failed fuel injectors (very likely cause) failed turbos (very likely as turbos on 1.8 litre Audis fail at about 80k miles) oil seapage into cylinder and slipping timing belt. Honestly, 80k miles is a lot for an Audi 1.8 turbo. I would look into selling this vehicle soon as many things are soon to fail on this vehicle and being an Audi, it will be very expensive to repair. What could be wrong if my audi starts trembling and shaking and the check engine light is blinking?
The shaking could be a transmission or an engine problem, and because the check engine light is blinking and because there is always a backup for that, I'm guessing the engine is damaged. It could be that road debris got in, which caused the shaking, or your springs are damaged (though this almost never happens). Nevertheless, go to the dealership and ask about it, or consult your manual for more help. What could be wrong if my audi starts trembling and shaking and the check engine light is blinking?Blinking normally means it's missfiring. (That's the horrible shaking that you're feeling.)

Let's not jump the gun and blame the shop that did the timing belt. It may be related...it may be not.

Do not drive the vehicle; TOW it in. Hopefully the shop that did your timing belt is an Audi specialist. Have them scan for fault codes and go from there. What could be wrong if my audi starts trembling and shaking and the check engine light is blinking?
It has to do with the repair you just had done. DO NOT let them say it is some random event. The timing is off.

Read your manual. The blinking light may mean Do Not Drive. If so do not drive it. Have the repair shop send over a flatbed tow truck to pick it up.What could be wrong if my audi starts trembling and shaking and the check engine light is blinking? Most likely a severe misfire hopefully its just due to the ignition system which might consist of replacing the plugs and at the high end an ignition coil... hopefully thats it it could still be loss of compression or lack of air or fuel so have someone see what kind of code it has then repost a question or update this oneWhat could be wrong if my audi starts trembling and shaking and the check engine light is blinking?
The light is coming on because the knock sensor is out of range at the least.

Belt was changed? At a dealer? Have it TOWED to the nearest dealer and make sure the belt didn't slip. If it did the job was botched and a new tensioner was never installed. This 4cyl requires it with a new belt.
I suggest looking into the ICM (ignition control module), the 1.8t is notorious for ICM failure. You can cause some serious catalytic converter damage with a severe misfire like that. There's a testing procedure with the use of a Digital meter on the web if you do a search for it. Also, you can get the HUCO brand replacement for it for half the price of Bosch.
