Particularly, I would like to know with regards to the Audi B5 S4, or B6 S4. Thank you.Is it possible to install the Quattro system onto an Audi that does not have it stock? You could. But it would cost way more money than just buying the Quattro car, it would require replacing the most of the suspension, adding in new electronics and AWD components from a Quattro car to make it work, and maybe even the front subframe since it could also be different. Your extreme modifications would make your car worth nothing too.Is it possible to install the Quattro system onto an Audi that does not have it stock?Anything is possible... but the work, time and $$$ just isn't worth the benefit a Quattro-system vehicle provides. The added AWD is certainly a nice feature, and it's a dream in the snow, but it kills acceleration (FWD Audis' are faster) and it makes your car significantly heavier. The work that would go into a Quattro conversion would require modifications to suspension, tranny, body, floorboards and finding the proper parts to do it would be extremely challenging...
An option you might consider is picking up a Quattro-system car with a blown motor and dropping in an engine of your choosing. It would be less expensive and there have been many people before you that have done it and succeeded, so finding help through the process would be easy...
Good luck, and if you decide to try anyway, keep me posted on the progress. I would love to see what goes into it!Is it possible to install the Quattro system onto an Audi that does not have it stock?I'm guessing your talking about replacing the system from a FWD A4 with an S4 drivetrain since all S4's (B5 and B6) have the quattro. The answer is YES ! you can do it, although it is going to be expensive and time consuming. The biturbo setup from the B5 S4 is quickly becoming the swap of choice with the old school crowd. You basically buy an old wrecked (good motor and driveline) S4, park it next to your FWD version and start swapping. Swap everything... As someone mentioned, you'll even need to swap the main wireing harness which is probably the biggest pain of the whole ordeal. A B6 swap is almost out of the question since those wrecks/parts are still outrageously expensive (B5 S4 are plentifull, are capable of insane power (if thats what your looking for) and the junk yards are FULL of them... 8-) A couple of good sources for information would be www.audiworld.com or www.motorgeek.com.
FWD being faster than AWD is a myth. Watch an old cup race on speedchannel. The quattros launch off the line and then it becomes a game of who handles better and even though quattros normal tendency is to plow, FWD is even worse.
