I once owned 3 profitable detail shops at one time and we didn't use anything but water and a mit since the whole car was getting polished anyways but if there was a bucket of soap and water around we would use that. For simple wash N wax service I bought whatever the cheapest soap the supplier had.
Waxing does not put on a shell of wax what waxing does is saturate the paint/clear coat with petroleum oil products so you never use any soap that has the ability to break down oil. . So when waxing do not go right up to the end of the paint stay a little bit away from cracks and edges. This way you get a full coverage and eliminate wax in the cracks syndrome. Any of you are going to use trim shiner/conditioner put that on before you do wax. A little detailer thing is to apply a paste wax with a wet down applicator then paste wax right on top of that. It just works..What soap is best when washing my 1999 BMW dark blue? Both Meguiars and Mother's make very good products for car care. Both offer a combination "Cleaner/Wax" which would eliminate a step. Whatever product you select for washing whether Armorall, Blue Coral, Mother's, etc, be sure it's specifically made for car washing. Dishwashing products such as Dawn, Joy, etc, are to be avoided because they strip whatever wax finish presently on the car (unless that's what you intend to do, then following up with a complete waxing).
