I found the oil that was recommended for it and the oil filter. It comes with a copper ring along with the rubber O ring. This washer goes on the plug that you remove from the oil pan to drain the oil. The copper ring isn't the same size as the oil filter correct? It's actually a gasket for a crankcase plug (in newer bmws it's on the side) that you can drain oil from. Most bmw service technicians (at the time) actually removed oil from cars via the dipstick using an oil extractor rather than an actual plug. I'm not even sure if the oil pan has a plug or if you have to use the crankcase plug.

Also, perhaps the filter fits various car models, some of which use the copper gasket while yours does not.
