There were two revisions of the BMW alarm (at least) for the e36. Both were made by Alpine, and both have the brains sitting behind the glove box. The earlier one had a separate microphone for the glass breakage detector which was wired out into the cabin area. The later revision had the microphone built into the 'brain'. It isn't clear if this revision was to improve upon the design, or if it was done to save cost and ease retrofitting into the vehicles at the dealer.
Anyone know which is better?Which factory BMW alarm is better for the e36?The one with the external microphone is better because it picks up sound better than the one in located in the brain.
I have a car alarm with an external microphone, and if a honda drives buy with a rice can it will make my pre-alarm go off, and if they drive by again it will make the full alarm go off.
