What do i do if my bmw shows "trans program" error on the little screen?

1995 bmw 525i

In a BMW there is a Transmission Program Error which makes the car shift into 3rd gear. When the car is stopped and restarted this ends. Happens most times a few minutes into driving the car. Is this due to the Trans, or a Computer, or other? Please help, Thanks! What do i do if my bmw shows "trans program" error on the little screen?Re-programming the EGS (transmission module) does not help this problem. Nor does changing the shift lever mechanism. The most logical diagnosis is to hook up the car to a GT1 diagnostic machine to verify the actual faults stored. Then check the level and quality of the transmission oil with the car in park and the engine running. If the transmission oil is very dark and smells burnt or has metal filings in it then the tranny is toast and should be repaired or replaced. And anytime there is a fault stored for gear speed plausibility (slippage) the tranny is also toast.

Replacing the whole tranny or even the valve body/control body is big bucks.
