This light came on this weekend, i dont know what it means, the car still runs perfect no problems at all. What should i do and is there a site i can use to read about my car's maintenance. So far i couldn't find anything on my car that would help me diagnose this problem. What does the Engine check light on 2001 BMW 316ti mean? The check engine light is linked to your vehicles engine and gearbox management computers. The light comes on when a sensor is reporting to the computer a figure or reading that is outside of normal parameters. This can be a one off occurrence or a failure in the system that the sensor is monitoring. Once the issue is resolved the computer can be reset and the check engine light turned off.
You should have the vehicle scanned and the issue resolved as soon as you can. If there is a big fault on a BMW the computer can go into a safe mode which will allow you to get off a main road before stopping and getting help.
The warning light is amber in color and is advisory. If you see a red light on your dashboard you should stop immediately. What does the Engine check light on 2001 BMW 316ti mean?Usually check engine light is triggered by failing emissions components.
Without pluging your car into a diagnostic computer or OBDII scanner, it's impossible to guess what's wrong.
Since you said you have a 316ti, you are probably not residing in North America.
You could either head to your BMW dealer, or head to whatever the equivalents of our Advance Auto Parts or Autozone stores over in your country, who can help read error codes off your car for free.
